Conversation with Ethan about... S.E.X.

A regular Wednesday afternoon while driving Ethan to his piano lesson, he said,
"mom, guess what?" By the tone of his voice, you can tell that he has some secrets to tell.
"What? Ethan?"
"I saw the word s-e-x in the children's dictionary." Shockingly he said.
"Well, sex is a word and it should be in a dictionary."
"But! Mom! In a children's dictionary??" More shockingly - how could his mother be so insensitive to this mysterious word - he must've thought.
"Well, children need to learn about sex, too, don't you think?"
"Oh, gross!"
"Ethan, listen." Ok, now mom is getting serious.
"Sex is an important part of being human. We are given this ability to create offspring."
"What is offspring?"
"Children. Kids. It is something Heavenly Father blesses us with and we need to take it very seriously. It does not matter what people are saying about it, it is something sacred. You know, something holy. You can only use this ability when you are married."
"So that means you and dad had sex to have us?" Shoot! Did he only hear the first part of the things I said?
"But of course."
"Oh, so you guys had done it three times?"
silence. silence. silence.
"Hey, Ethan, would you call Xan to see what she is doing right now?"

If nothing I've learned from Motherhood, I've at least learned how to change subject when I need to.

Starting again

It's been a while... A long while, actually. Between the last post and today, we've added one more person to our family. Being a family of five, there are more interesting memories to be written...or not.

For better or for worse, it would be something for the kids to read when they are older. And maybe, just maybe, they will find something helpful in these written words. That is my hope anyway.

Here is to happy blogging.
